Positioned at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. the doors of the George W. Bush Library opened May 1st 2013. Honoring America’s 43rd President Mr. George W. Bush, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) introduced the 13th Presidential library and museum dedicated to Bush’s eight year legacy, highlighting critical events and issues during the administration of George W. Bush.

The 14,000-square-foot museum introduces exhibits on the September 11th terrorist attacks, The Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, the Florida recount, and other historical events. Special features include a full size replica of the Oval Office, and the beautiful Texas Rose Garden.

Tuesdays With Morrie

In todays society it seems we’re constantly distracted with social media, youth, electronics, work, and materialistic achievements, it is inevitable we are left with little time to enjoy a meaningful life. “So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they’re busy doing things they think are important. This is because they’re chasing the wrong things. Tuesdays with Morrie is a non-fiction book written by Mitch Albon, who recounts the last days spent with his 78 year old sociology professor Morrie Schwartz. Mitch the successful sports writer finds himself overwhelmed with his day to day lifestyle, and after seeing his favorite professor on the television show ‘Nightline’, decides to rekindle the cherished relationship. Despite a 16 year lapse, the bitter sweet story of a ‘Coach’ (Morrie) and his ‘player’ (Mitch) is beautifully unveiled through 14 Tuesdays of what Mitch Albon refers to as ‘Life’s greatest lesson’.

As the charming Morrie delves into his experience of life, death, family, love, money, regret, and saying goodbye he is dying of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. His unapologetic delivery is both moving and humbled. As the two characters develop a father and son like relationship the bond is completely life changing. 192 pages full of quotes I personally plan to live by such as, “The truth is, once you learn how to die, you learn how to live.” I strongly suggest picking up a copy if you haven’t already.

On a more personal note, be carful of reading it in public. Tuesdays With Morrie may or may not have snuck up and tugged at my heart, sending tears down my cheeks.

Located in Seattle, Washington, Kuhlman is an 800-sq.-foot (74-sq.-meter) store that specializes in bespoke tailoring and men’s and women’s contemporary clothing from brands that include Descendant of Thieves, Harlyn and Barbour, among others. It opened in the late 1990s. SI contributor Rudy Gonzales recently spoke with owner Scott Kuhlman to delve into his “thrift hound” buying strategy and the store’s “retro grouch” decor. Interview by Rudy Gonzales

What inspired you to get into retail and open Kuhlman?
There was an opportunity in a great old building in Belltown, my favorite neighborhood.

What are some of your current bestsellers brandwise and itemwise?
J. Lindeberg suits and woven shirts, Barbour waxed cotton coats and accessories and Tellason jeans. Everything from Penguin and Nixon.

Have you been surprised by the sales performance of any particular item or brand?
Nixon launched clothing for men and women not too long ago. It’s well designed and priced so it’s not really a surprise that it sells well.

Who is your “typical” customer?
Creative professionals and people who live and work in neighborhood.

How does the store compare to other shops in the area? What sets Kuhlman apart?
We are diversified. We offer ready-to-wear from T-shirts to tuxes as well as bespoke custom. We also do alterations and repairs on garments that didn’t necessarily come from our store. We keep a lot of favorite jeans on the road even after major blowouts.

Not one to stray away from my personal standard selection of grooming products, I (like most men) feel a bit cautious when trying a new brand. However, when a charming friend such as Andre Azcuidiaz invites you to an intimate Lush Cosmetics event, the only answer is simply… Yes!

Since 1995, Lush has developed handmade cosmetics for both men and women. Founders and activist Liz & Mark Constantine have combined their passion for organic products, a philosophy of ‘Green Washing’, and more recently have been making a difference in the fight for animal rights.

Offering everything from skincare, makeup to hair care and fragrance, each product is formulated of organic fruits and vegetables. The brand’s ‘Green Washing’ approach is a purposely un-packaged product in an effort to make a cleaner environment. Meanwhile Lush’s ethical stand on the fight against animal testing is an honorable one indeed! Not only does Lush refuse to test on animals, an annual grand Lush Prize is awarded to the individual making the most notable difference in fight against animal testing.

Greeted with a glass of champagne, the flawless customer service at the Herald Square location was greatly appreciated. Store manager Andre Azcuidiaz curated an intimate setting balanced between employees and consumers, inviting customers to divulge into their cosmetic desires to better perfect the stores customer service. It’s needless to say the Lush experience was absolutely divine, I will most certainly be coming back!

On a more personal note, I favored the delectable marmalade Sexy Peel soap, a indulging combination of orange juice and zesty lime oil that make for a perfect daily exfoliator.

Perhaps you’ve heard that Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby”will open this year’s Cannes film festival. WWD’s indefatigable executive editor Bridget Foley spoke with Catherine Martin, Luhrmann’s frequent costume designer (and wife), for M.

As for the menswear, with the pool of rentable men’s vintage suffering from overuse, Martin feared ending up with “all these sort of lumpy, mismatching black suits.” She wanted “really snappy, beautiful silhouettes…That’s not to say we didn’t use secondhand pieces. But I just didn’t want the world to have that look, you know, like we’ve gone through a secondhand shop and just bought everything and nothing quite fits.”

The Brooks Brothers pairing was a natural one; Fitzgerald was consumed with matters of style. Patrician of bone structure, if not birth, in his famous Scribner’s book portrait, he looks as debonair as an Arrow Collar man. But his shirts were from Brooks Brothers. He associated the clothier, founded in New York in 1818, with breeding and arrival, and often identified his characters as dressing from the firm.

Martin approached Arthur Wayne, Brooks Brothers’ vice president of global public relations, and asked if the firm would make her designs for the background actors. The initial goal: eveningwear with that “crispness” essential to her vision. To that end, she and the Brooks Brothers studio varied their evening fabrics, using different shades and textures of black, thus allowing for visual separation of the actors in crowd scenes. Along the way, she took at least one significant historical liberty, including navy for some of the suits.

“In the thirties, the Prince of Wales, Edward VIII, famously had a pair of dark blue tails,” Martin says. “He preferred them because he said you could much more clearly see the tailoring details when it was dark blue.”

In all, Brooks Brothers delivered nearly 600 background suits, both day and evening, as well as ties, tuxedo shirts, waistcoats, boaters, and caps, manufactured mostly in Brooklyn and tweaked by the Luhrmanns’ own tailor in Australia.
