Life of Pi

image

In what is a best seller’s perfect first impression, Yann Martel’s adventurist novel Life Of Pi story is now told throughout two hours and seven minutes of a MUST SEE theatrical 3-D film.

Life Of Pi unravels the tale of its protagonist Piscine Molito, a tragic shipwreck, and his 227 day survival stranded in the Pacific Ocean (and wait for it…) alongside a Bengal Tiger. As the humbled and charming Piscine walks us through his spiritual journey of Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam, he faces the tragic loss of his family that will ultimately unveil the man this Indian boy truly becomes.

Suraji Sharman independently delivers the role of Piscine (Pi) Molito as he captivates passion heroically throughout the feature film. Written by David Magee and Yann Martel, and directed by Ang Lee the film delivers a beautiful visual experience rather then the expected emotional one. However, I must say, I felt as present in the story as I did when I read it!

I strongly urge you, if you haven’t yet read or seen the Life Of Pi, to do so NOW in 3-D as I almost missed my chance and wouldn’t want anyone else to either!

Cockpit USA Catalog No.4

image

Established in 1975, Cockpit USA, the official suppliers to the U.S. Air Force debuts the 4th edition of the brands well acclaimed army, air force, and fashion catalog. The iconic A-2 and G-1 bomber styles are offered in a array of authentic and replicated historical designs. Sleek Motocross and textile M-43 styles are fashioned to a modern fit, while luxury shearling and sheepskin parkas conclude the jacket offerings. Key styles such as the ‘USS Forrestal Carrier’ pays homage to the Vietnam war, while ‘The Tuskegee’ A-2 jacket boasts embroidered patches hand picked by Cockpit’s Jeff Clyman and the Tuskegee Airmen NY chapter. A capsule of women’s jackets inspired by the famous ‘First Lady of Aviation’ Amelia Earhart are showcased alongside a custom WASP (Women’s Air Service Pilots) piece dating back to WWII. Adorable miniature MA-1 and G-1 jackets are available in toddler and kid’s sizes alongside the camouflage aviator kits, pilot gloves and sherpa hats that complete the American lifestyle brand’s collection.

Photographed by the ever charming and talented Theodore Samuels, the new Cockpit USA cover features the handsome Adrian Zuniga and Diego Beltran and was styled and directed by myself with the wonderful efforts of my dear friend Barret Wertz (photo shoot). The overall updated design is a modern interpretation of Cockpit’s 35 years of award winning catalog business. The layout and design of this catalog was creatively directed by myself, Rudy Gonzales working alongside Jeff and Jacky Clyman, Rosa Kaftan, and Carl Garrett.

On a more personal note, it is a true pleasure to see months of hard work and dedication, producing the catalog with little to NO Photoshop and In Design design experience, come to fruition as the completed, polished product - it feels like quite the accomplishment indeed! When creating a design for a company there will always be tweaks and adjustments, and little things one would do differently (including the ‘Urg… Why did they have to use that photo’ moments). However, I couldn’t be happier with the final product, especially when Jeff Clyman himself proudly states “This catalog takes us out of the 80’s!”

Smith & Kane

Of the saturated plethora of decorative body armor, jewels and arm parties around, Smith &Kane is the life and soul.

Established in March 2011, each Smith & Kane bracelet is designed and made by jewelry designer and artesian craftswoman Tysha Ampadu. A seasoned stylist and costume designer for the silver screen, Tysha believes in the authority of accessorizing. Handcrafted and personalized with love in the heart of Brooklyn, the inimitable Smith & Kane spirit embodies the unique energy of New York City.

Shattering  society’s constructed norms of labels the bracelet brings together something which symbolizes differences in culture , race, sexual orientation and class. Not living to someone else’s expectations but a reminder that we design ourselves .

A metal imbued manifestation of Tysha’s urban love affair with NYC, the Smith & Kane collection is created for the street chic, city dwelling individual. A representation of the raw strength and effortless sex appeal synonymous with the ppl who inspire her , New Yorkers. Like the leather incorporated into the bracelets, the I.D. bracelet bearer is tough and resilient yet simultaneously enchanting and unique, just like the personalized touches which include brass embellishments, spikes and Cuban link chains.

The standout pieces of the collection include the double spiked I.D. bracelet that imbues an empowering yet subtle edge and the Cuban link bracelet with leather accents which is unashamedly tough and mean in build and character.

The beautiful arm accessories are available to purchase online and one of my personal favorite spots Atrium NYC.  The brand has  already been favored by celebrities such as Wiz Khalifa, Kelly Rowland,  and Wale and obviously Mr. roOdles!!!

Las Vegas Market Week: S/S 2013

The Las Vegas trade week for Spring & Summer 2013 was surely a busy one. With the beautiful and talented Rosa Kaftan at my side we dressed in our best ensembles, and within three days time covered Project, Capsule, ENK, and Pool. Marking only four of seven shows off the list, it’s needless to say there was plenty to be seen.

Positioned at Mandalay Bay, running from August 20th- 22nd Project showcased over three hundred Men’s and Women’s brands. Cockpit USA premiered light ammo pocket outerwear, alongside tinted black and indigo chambray shirting. While Ivy Prepster teased us with printed dickey bows, the charming Steven DeLong at Ernest Alexander  showed hand printed neckties personally painted by Alexander himself. Serving up quite the dish was the handsome Kortney Hastin as he debuted Norman Russell, a beautiful domestically produced denim collection. We then secretly indulged in the sequined blazer and printed shirting found at Emperor 1688. Colorful short shorts turned heads at Pantone, while United Blue’s hand crafted accessories brought us back down to earth, removing one pound of trash from the ocean with every item sold.

Capsule introduced over 170 brands at the Venetian. One of my personal favorites, Barque showed his new take on Benton stripes and dapper prints. Favorites Penny Stock, Billy Kirk, and Billy Reid debuted their classic Americana threads. Eastland offered the traditional boat shoe in pop colors of orange, blue, and yellow.

ENK located at the Wynn hotel, added an additional floor of women’s section. Though it was difficult to get into the show, we were very pleased with over 200 brands to view. Sandast, a lovely Los Angles based brand had me drooling over the well made nostalgic accessories. While the handsome NY Based collection introduced traditional knits in bright green, fuchsia, and blue.

Always a must see, I paid a quick visit to Rojas who sparkled with his coined sneaker collection at Pool Trade Show. Then picked up my new favorite ring at Lok’d jewelry for only $10 located at the cash and carry section adjacent the Project Trade Show.

Please check out the Sportswear International coverage by Christopher Blonquist and myself!!! Also sneak a peek at the handsome faces who prove to be quite the distraction below.

Sleep No More… a Birthday Extravaganza!!!

Marking yet another year, my twenty-ninth birthday is one I shall cherish forever. The thrilling and memorable experience has snapped me out of a wretched blog coma and encouraged me to document the celebration!

With the feverish efforts of my dearest friends Marcus Fiore, Barret Wertz, Paul Zansler, and my darling boyfriend Trevor Eckles- a marvelous evening of surprises were had at ‘Sleep No More’ located at the McKittrick Hotel at 530 West 27th Street in Chelsea, NYC.

Our rendezvous began on The High Line elevated park where Marcus kept me in suspense on every sneaky detail. I then received a cheeky text that led us into the McKittrick. The four of us Marcus, Barret, Paul, and I poured into the nostalgic bar while sharing cocktails in 1930s fashion. Shortly after, we were masked, warned to hush-up, and then parted into the black halls of a six-story warehouse.

As I unknowingly began my quest into darkness, the beautiful yet morbid set designs provoked my curiosity. Taunting fellow masked guests riffled through cabinets, as I read through journals and carefully examined props. Suddenly a handsome male actor called upon the floor’s attention, aroused in abnormal curiosity we quickly followed running through halls and stairways as he silently performed sexual and deviant acts. Steadily he and alternate actors thrillingly unveiled the unique interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic play Macbeth.

Ravishingly designed halls, spaces, and rooms are lit to nightmarish perfection. Mysterious figures are found lurking about; betraying, murdering, and sexually indulging with one another. While mural like scenes are dramatically acted out, nude orgy and techno sacrifices are had.

The Sleep No More presentation is developed by the well-known British theatre company Punch Drunk, and directed by Felix Barrett and Maxine Doyle. Available to book from now through November 3, the erotic demonstration of dance and silent interaction between both the actors and the guests runs approximately two hours long. The experience is said to be unique for each guest and every visit, and while it is not by any means a source of Macbeth facts, I highly recommend attending with an open mind.

On a more personal note, a delightful surprise came over while silently identifying masked friends throughout the experience based on posture and of course fashion. Meanwhile directly after the show Marcus quickly unmasked a few of the guest, who turned out to be friends Andrea Blythe and Christopher Blomquist who were also there to celebrate the birthday festivities.

As we indulged in a fiery punch cocktail at Gallow Green, the Hotel’s rooftop bar, the beautiful Annabella gifted a seed of protection that was planted by all of us. She carefully placed the root into each of our hands, we then sourced a location and dug up a place for the seed to call home.

I can’t express how wonderful the night was, it’s moments like these that are shared and created by loved ones that we never forget. Please check out some of the enchanting performers, who needless to say left my trousers twitching about!!!
