Las Vegas Market Week: S/S 2013

The Las Vegas trade week for Spring & Summer 2013 was surely a busy one. With the beautiful and talented Rosa Kaftan at my side we dressed in our best ensembles, and within three days time covered Project, Capsule, ENK, and Pool. Marking only four of seven shows off the list, it’s needless to say there was plenty to be seen.

Positioned at Mandalay Bay, running from August 20th- 22nd Project showcased over three hundred Men’s and Women’s brands. Cockpit USA premiered light ammo pocket outerwear, alongside tinted black and indigo chambray shirting. While Ivy Prepster teased us with printed dickey bows, the charming Steven DeLong at Ernest Alexander  showed hand printed neckties personally painted by Alexander himself. Serving up quite the dish was the handsome Kortney Hastin as he debuted Norman Russell, a beautiful domestically produced denim collection. We then secretly indulged in the sequined blazer and printed shirting found at Emperor 1688. Colorful short shorts turned heads at Pantone, while United Blue’s hand crafted accessories brought us back down to earth, removing one pound of trash from the ocean with every item sold.

Capsule introduced over 170 brands at the Venetian. One of my personal favorites, Barque showed his new take on Benton stripes and dapper prints. Favorites Penny Stock, Billy Kirk, and Billy Reid debuted their classic Americana threads. Eastland offered the traditional boat shoe in pop colors of orange, blue, and yellow.

ENK located at the Wynn hotel, added an additional floor of women’s section. Though it was difficult to get into the show, we were very pleased with over 200 brands to view. Sandast, a lovely Los Angles based brand had me drooling over the well made nostalgic accessories. While the handsome NY Based collection introduced traditional knits in bright green, fuchsia, and blue.

Always a must see, I paid a quick visit to Rojas who sparkled with his coined sneaker collection at Pool Trade Show. Then picked up my new favorite ring at Lok’d jewelry for only $10 located at the cash and carry section adjacent the Project Trade Show.

Barque aime Paris S/S 2013

If Paris truly is the city of love, it seems befitting that Barque NY is set to unveil its beguiling S/S 13 collection at the capsule trade show in the picturesque French capital at the end of this month.

Defined as creating collections which represent modern interpretations of known classics, the brand restates this essence and spirit of rejuvenation within the handsome, new collection. Creative Director and designer, Gilbert Chen plays with new silhouettes combining laid back cool with luxe in the collection’s statement and on trend madras print double breasted, unconstructed blazer. Each and every item in the collection has been created to revitalize established conventions, a feat achieved by innovatively working an array of textiles into the styles. From colorful yet quintessentially summery seersucker, quirky patchwork shirting, lavish double-faced cotton, Breton stripe jersey and the sumptuous hooded, pull over sweaters,  Barque S/S 13 brings the label’s signature clean cut aesthetic up to date and introduces a new daring degree of vibrancy, fun and attitude.

While the color story remains ever true to Barque’s archetypal palette of beige, blue and navy with pops of orange and shades of grey, key pieces in the new season’s collection embody entirely new interpretations of traditional staples. Japanese denim with nautical inspired dobby takes form in a standout blazer, alongside a unique unconstructed smart jacket in patchwork shirting while button down cardigans are emboldened in drastically contrasting color and heavy jersey henleys are available in a variety of stripes.

Indulging the elegance of its Parisian influences, from June 29 – July 1, Barque will debut the chic S/S 13 collection at the capsule trade located at Cite de la Mode, 34 Quai d’Austerlitz. Here’s a sneak peek of the Spring 2013 collection!

Project & Capsule NY

I was completely flattered when my dear friend Christopher Blomquist of Sportswear International asked me to cover the NY market week.

Capsule & Project trade shows debuted mens Fall 2012 contemporary collections. Hues of beautifully designed threads echoed through the halls, while characters (buyers, designers, and editorial) determined the season trends.

The coverage went live yesterday adding a little extra pump in my step. I felt inspired to begin this blog, pleased with the piece there were so many images that didn’t quite fit the edit.
